the pitchJoin our team as a Principal Civil Engineer, where you will play a crucial role in defining, integrating, and assuring the design of buildings, civil structures, groundworks, and site-wide infrastructure for the STEP Prototype Plant. You will provide authoritative civil and structural engineering leadership, establish governance and standards, ensure integration and design integrity, and manage technical risks. This is a hybrid position based in West Burton, with a salary range of £52,500-£75,000 depending on experience.

The service provider shall demonstrate experience delivering civil and structural engineering leadership in complex, safety-critical or highly regulated environments, with strong systems integration capability, an understanding of CDM and statutory obligations, and the ability to operate effectively in novel, first-of-a-kind engineering programmes, including experience working with immature design baselines, managing high levels of uncertainty, and making robust engineering decisions in highly coupled, multi-disciplinary environments.

Key responsibilities
- Defining, integrating, and assuring the design of buildings, civil structures, groundworks, and site-wide infrastructure for the STEP Prototype Plant (SPP).
- Establishing and operating civil engineering governance, standards, and review arrangements, ensuring integration and design integrity between civil facilities, fusion plant systems, and site infrastructure.
- Identifying, managing, and advising on civil and structural technical risk, safety, and compliance matters, including risks arising from incomplete or evolving design inputs.
