Summary

As a Digital Systems Engineer, you will provide professional systems engineering services across the JDR Programme, focusing on the Digital Capability Project. You will lead and manage the technical development of a system throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring the delivery of assured products and services. This role requires a relevant degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related STEM field, and extensive experience in practical application of systems engineering.

- Systems Engineering (support to Technical Lead)
- Promote the value and benefits of systems engineering.
- Support change management initiatives for moving from a science led to engineering led organisation.
- Keep abreast of developments, innovation and best practice in systems engineering.
- Provide training, coaching and mentoring.
- Support the continuous improvement of systems engineering processes and toolsets.
- Systems Engineering (Core Area)
- Lead and manage the technical development of a system throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure the delivery of assured products and services.
- Research, elicit, capture, develop and manage requirements.
- Define and manage verification and validation activities.
- Define and manage interfaces.
- Develop and maintain the functional and physical architectures / definitions of systems.
- Implement Model Based Systems Engineering techniques where appropriate.
- Conduct trade-off analysis and optioneering studies.
- Conduct analysis activities to improve system performance and safety.
- Provide input and guidance to decision-making activities.
- Support procurement activities.
- Identify, manage and mitigate technical risk.
- Produce technical reports and provide analysis and evidence to support and supplement all activities.
- Role may be requested to provide advice and guidance to other UKAEA project teams if required.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience:
Essential
- A relevant degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related STEM field.
- Knowledge and experience of Systems Engineering.
- Demonstrable ability to grasp the basics of an engineering concept and explore wider implications.
- Previous experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams, developing complex systems.
- Extensive experience of practical application of systems engineering.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Working towards professional registration as Chartered Engineer.
- NOTE: Membership of, or accreditation with, INCOSE would be beneficial at all levels.
- Demonstrable experience of systems engineering in complex digital/software engineering projects.
Desirable
- Professional registration as Chartered Engineer.
- Systems engineering experience in large programmes/projects in complex, e.g. nuclear/process/industrial engineering, environments.
- Experience of working closely with software developers/development teams.
- Knowledge of/experience with software development tools and processes.
